The Secret to a Lit-From-Within Glow

Is the sheer, chic, diffused application of blush  that we’re seeing on the runways and glossy magazine covers a backlash to the overwhelming era of darkly chiselled, powdery contoured cheekbones which we have been forced to endure on the likes of Instagram and Youtube for way to long now?

If it is, I for one am loving it!  Of course a beautifully structured contoured face can look amazing in professionally lit studios and photography, but that doesn’t always transfer well to real life, and harsh daylight.  This is where we can run into unfortunate situations where we see the makeup before we see the actual person.  Not a good look for anyone, never mind a bride!

Step up cream blusher!  Definitely not a new concept in makeup, but one that is experiencing a little bit of a revival.  Blush really adds balance to a makeup and can tie everything together beautifully.  Not to mention that it can bring out the whites of your eyes and teeth, as well as also sharpening your actual eye colour.  With cream blush you get a lovely creamy texture that leaves that gorgeous dewy finish to the skin, and as it is extremely user friendly, making huge mistakes with this is almost impossible. So ladies, there really is no reason not to give it a try!

My Do’s and Don’ts

DO apply just after foundation.  Apply nice and thin, and blend well into your foundation with patting motion.

DONT rub too hard or you will move the makeup underneath

DO  think about your face shape.  If you would like a nice fresh flushed look (which is the most youthful application) apply to the fullest part of your cheek, directly below your pupil, and blend mostly around the apples.  For a more defined structured and sophisticated look apply on the cheek bone and blend up into your highlighter and toward the back of the cheekbones.

DONT  forget to blend your edges.  The look we are going for is a “cloud of colour” rather than a stamp.  Take your foundation brush, or sponge, and with the residual foundation on there, soften the edges where the blush meets foundation.

DO try mixing a little bit of cream or liquid highlighter to your cream blush to add a beautiful sheen to the cheeks

DO try to leave the area free from any extra additional products for a really “glowy” look.  However, if you are oily apply a light dusting of translucent power.
